Can You Get a Full Car Service at Home in Birmingham?

Yes, many routine car-service tasks can be done by a mobile mechanic at a suitable home or workplace location. What “full service” includes varies between providers and vehicles, so ask for the actual checklist and the correct service schedule for your car before booking. A service is also different from an MOT: one maintains the vehicle; the other is a statutory test at an approved centre.

Mobile servicing can be convenient if you live or work in Birmingham and would otherwise need to leave the car at a garage. Autotech Motorworks offers mobile car servicing anywhere in Birmingham and the West Midlands, priced from your registration.

What should be included in a full service?

There is no single universal “full service” list. The correct work depends on the manufacturer's schedule, age, mileage, engine, previous service history and any condition-based reminders. An oil and filter change may be part of the service, while other filters, fluids, plugs or checks may be due at different intervals. Ask for a written itemisation of parts and checks, including which work is included in the price and which would be separately authorised.

Packages also differ between providers. The AA's mobile-service FAQ lists interim, full and major services, but those checklists describe its own packages. See what's in our interim and full services.

Interim, full or major: which should I book?

Start with the manufacturer's handbook and your service record. If you drive high mileage or mostly make short trips, discuss whether extra checks are sensible between scheduled services. If the car is overdue, tell the mechanic when it was last serviced and what work was done, rather than guessing the package by its name.

A service is an opportunity to spot developing issues, but it is not a promise that every hidden fault will be found. If the car has a warning light, unusual noise or starting problem, mention it when booking; it may need a separate diagnostic check.

Is my parking space suitable?

A mobile mechanic needs enough safe access around the vehicle and somewhere appropriate to park equipment and handle fluids. Tell the provider if the car is on a public road, in a managed car park or in a tight space. Confirm any site rules and permission to work there. We need a safe spot to work, with permission where the site requires it, and we'll tell you when you book if the location could be a problem.

What should I receive after the service?

Ask for an invoice showing the vehicle, date, work carried out, parts used and any issues needing later attention. Find out whether the service record can be updated and whether a digital service history entry is possible for your vehicle. Keep these records; they help with maintenance planning and future sale.
