What's included in a mobile service
Every service starts with your registration. That tells us the exact engine, the oil specification your manufacturer requires and the right filters, so the parts are matched to your car before we arrive rather than guessed on the day. A typical service covers:
- Engine oil drained and replaced with the correct grade and specification for your engine
- New oil filter
- Coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid and screenwash levels checked and topped up
- Brakes, tyres, suspension and steering inspected for wear and damage
- Tyre tread depth and pressures checked
- Battery condition and charging system checked
- Lights, wipers, washers and horn checked
- Visual check of the exhaust and underside for leaks or corrosion
- Service reminder reset on the dashboard where your car has one
- A clear, plain-English report of anything we find, with no pressure to book work you don't need
Interim or full service?
The two most common service levels differ in how much is replaced and how deep the inspection goes:

An interim service suits higher-mileage drivers who want a check-up between full services. If you're not sure which your car needs, send your registration and we'll tell you honestly, including when a simple oil and filter change is all that's needed.
How often your car needs servicing
Your handbook or service book is the final word, because intervals vary a lot between manufacturers. Many modern cars use variable or "long-life" schedules where the car itself calculates when the next service is due, sometimes up to two years apart. Two things are worth knowing:
- Time matters as well as mileage. Oil degrades even when the car isn't driven much, so a low-mileage car still needs its annual service.
- Short journeys count as hard use. Many handbooks class frequent short trips, stop-start city driving and towing as "severe" conditions that call for shorter intervals. A lot of Birmingham driving falls into that category.
Will a mobile service affect my manufacturer warranty?
In the UK, using an independent mechanic doesn't by itself void your manufacturer warranty, as long as the service follows the manufacturer's schedule and uses parts of matching quality. Keep the invoice and a record of what was done for your service history. Repairs actually covered by the warranty, and some recalls or software updates, may still need to go through a main dealer, and we'll tell you if that applies to your car.
Signs your car needs a service sooner

- The oil level on the dipstick is low, or the oil looks black and gritty
- The red oil pressure warning light comes on (stop driving and call us)
- Fuel economy has dropped noticeably
- The engine idles roughly or feels sluggish
- It's been more than a year since the last service, whatever the mileage

The price depends on your make, model, engine and the service level, because oil capacity, oil specification and parts differ a lot between cars. That's why we price from your registration instead of quoting a one-size-fits-all figure. There are no hidden extras. If we find something else that needs attention once we see the car, we show you, explain it and price it, and nothing is done without your say-so.
